East Lake Stuns Palm Harbor
PALM HARBOR - East Lake forward Leah Fisher led her team with two goals as the Eagles upset district rival Palm Harbor 3-0 Tuesday night to reach the Class 5A-Region 3 final. East Lake (16-5) will play at Seminole (18-2-1) on Friday night for the regional title. Fisher displayed her ball control on her first goal as she created space on two Palm Harbor defenders. Fisher's second goal came early in the second half as the Hurricanes (17-2-2) failed to clear their goal box. Fisher capitalized with a right-footed shot into the right corner of the goal. "Tatiana Perez played a great ball and I was missing them early on but I was able to get to it and finish," Fisher said. "The second goal I just took a shot kinda hoping to get a rebound off the post or the keeper because I nailed it but I put it at the edge of the post and it went in."East Lake forward Perez made the most of a 1-on-1 and froze Palm Harbor goalie Monica Lee with a shot that found the right side of the net, capping the game's scoring. Palm Harbor didn't display the talent that got it to postseason play, surprising the homefield crowd. Palm Harbor battled hard but couldn't get the ball past Eagles goalie Ali Burnham, who had 10 saves. Palm Harbor twice had good opportunities to score. The first, with less than two minutes to go in the first half, came from forward Zoe Lombard, whose well-struck shot sailed wide. The second, midway through the second half, was from forward Ashlin Cook's right-footed volley, which struck the right post.
