TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Lightning will participate in a four-team rookie tournament in Coral Springs next month, a week ahead of the opening of training camp.
Tampa Bay’s 24-man squad will consist of 2013 top draft picks Jonathan Drouin and Adam Erne, as well as former first-round picks Slater Koekkoek and Vladislav Namestnikov. The Lightning also expect former top college free agents J.T. Brown and Andrej Sustr, along with top prospects Nikita Kucherov, Cedric Paquette, Tanner Richard, Dylan Blujus, Artem Sergeev and Nikita Nesterov, to participate.
Tampa Bay will hold a two-day camp with 24 players at the Forum on Sept. 4-5 — both will be free and open to the public — before playing games against Nashville (Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.), Boston (Sept. 7 at noon) and Florida (Sept. 8 at 4 p.m.) at Saveology IcePlex. Games are free to the public, but a ticket is required and can be obtained by pre-registering at FloridaPanthers.com/trainingcamp and printing out a ticket.
The Lightning are scheduled to report to training camp on Sept. 11 in preparation for the 2013-14 season.
Also on Thursday, Tampa Bay announced it has entered into an affiliation agreement with the Brampton Beast of the Central Hockey League. The Beast, based in Brampton, Ontario, will open it’s inaugural season this year in the nine-team league. Brampton joins Syracuse (AHL) and Florida (ECHL) as Lightning farm team affiliates.
