Lightning send three players to AHL affiliate Norfolk
The Tampa Bay Lightning assigned defensemen Mike Lundin and Matt Lashoff to Norfolk of the American Hockey League today, the team said Wednesday in a press release. The Lightning released both players on Tuesday, then sent them to their minor league affiliate the after they cleared waivers. Tampa Bay also signed free agent left wing Mitch Fritz to a one-year contract Wednesday and sent him to Norfolk. Lundin, 25, played in four games with the Lightning during the preseason, recording one assist and an even rating. He has played in 106 career NHL games, all with Tampa Bay, registering eight assists. Lundin represented Tampa Bay at the 2008 NHL YoungStars Game. Last season he played in 51 contests with Norfolk, leading all team defensemen in points with 29 and assists with 25.Lashoff, 23, appeared in three preseason games with the Lightning, recording six penalty minutes. He has played in 58 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and Boston, including a career-high 28 last season. Lashoff was named a starter for the 2008 AHL All-Star Game, recording nine goals and 36 points in 60 games with Providence. Fritz, 6-foot-8 and 258 pounds, made his NHL debut last season with the New York Islanders, playing in 20 games with 42 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 36 games with Bridgeport of the AHL, notching two assists.
