WHO: Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m./St. Pete Times Forum TV/RADIO: Versus/620 AM SCOUTING THE CAPITALS: The suddenly defensive-minded Capitals have moved into the top 10 in team defense, allowing 2.45 goals per game, while offensively they rank 23rd, averaging 2.63 goals per game. Washington changed its philosophy during a nine-game winless streak in December, putting more of an emphasis on taking care of its own zone instead of playing a wide-open style, and the results have been a 17-8-6 record since ending the losing streak.
INJURIES: Capitals - D Mike Green (upper body), G Semyon Varlamov (knee), RW Eric Fehr (shoulder), D Tom Poti (groin), out; LW Jay Beagle (upper body), questionable. Lightning - LW Ryan Malone (abdominal), RW Steve Downie (ankle), out; D Mike Lundin (middle body), doubtful; D Marc-Andre Bergeron (back spasms), questionable. NEED TO KNOW: This is the final of six meetings. Tampa Bay is 2-3 this season. ... The Lightning have lost three consecutive games for only the second time this season. ... G Dwayne Roloson is 2-2 against the Capitals this season with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage with two shutouts, both of those while with the Lightning. ... Six Tampa Bay players - Nate Thompson, Dana Tyrell, Victor Hedman, Pavel Kubina,Bergeron and Mattias Ohlund - missed practice Sunday, although all are expected to play with the exception of Bergeron. ... Tampa Bay has scored two or fewer goals in five consecutive games. ... The Lightning have not lost consecutive home games in regulation all season. ...
