NEED TO KNOW: USF begins the “back nine’’ in league play. Five of its first nine conference games came against opponents with a national ranking. … USF leads the series 20-7, including a 7-5 advantage in Orlando, but this is USF’s first men’s basketball game against UCF as members of the same conference. … Freshman center Chris Perry shot 43 percent from the free-throw line (23 of 53) in his first 15 games, but has shot 75 percent (21 of 28) in his past seven games. … UCF has lost six consecutive games, but is 8-4 at home. … UCF senior guard Isaiah Sykes, called “one of the most dynamic players in our conference’’ by USF coach Stan Heath, averages 15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He’s the only player to rank in the top 15 of the AAC in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and field-goal percentage. … USF senior Victor Rudd, the team leader in scoring (14.5 points per game), needs two points to tie Reggie Kohn for 16th in career scoring (1,024).

The Seminoles are 6-0 against the Hokies in Tallahassee as ACC rivals. ... FSU senior Okaro White (Clearwater High) ranks 26th in school history in scoring with 1,177 career points. He began the season with 912 points and has moved up 32 spots on the Seminoles’ scoring list this season. ... This is the only regular season meeting between the teams.
