State resolution to declare Oct. 20 as Lee Roy Selmon Day
TAMPA - Lee Roy Selmon will be honored with a state resolution declaring October 20, 2012, as Lee Roy Selmon Day. Community leaders will present the resolution to Selmon's widow, Claybra Selmon, during a news conference on Oct. 19 at One Buc Place in Tampa. Selmon, a Hall of Fame defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former athletic director at the University of South Florida, died in September 2011 after a massive stroke. He was 56. Community leaders expected to attend the news conference include Florida state representative James W. Grant, Tampa city councilman Charlie Miranda, South Florida president Judy Genshaft, South Florida athletic director Doug Woolard, Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer, Tampa Expressway Authority chairman Stephen Diaco and Lee Roy Selmon's restuarants owner Bob Basham.In addition, details will be unveiled about a new partnership between South Florida and Lee Roy Selmon's restaurants to benefit a new program at the school.
