Senior Bowl practice: Dominik watches CBs; Saban appears

Roy Cummings, The Tampa Tribune's reporter covering the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is at the Senior Bowl. He will provide updates throughout the week. FAIRHOPE, Ala. --The North and South practices for the Senior Bowl were held almost simultaneously at two sites about 20 miles apart Tuesday, forcing NFL scouts, coaches and general managers to choose one over the other. Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik and scouting director Dennis Hickey chose to watch the North team, and both spent the majority of their time locked in on the cornerbacks. The South team features two of ESPN's top five senior cornerbacks, Jordan Poyer (Oregon State) and Desmond Trufant (Washington).
On the North side, Leon McFadden (San Diego State) and Bacarri Rambo (Georgia) have flashed repeatedly in matchup drills. About a half-hour into the workout, a big, white SUV drove into the field area and onto the track around the field, stopping at midfield. It was the annual appearance of Alabama coach Nick Saban, who actually stuck around for the entire workout this time and was kind enough to pose for several pictures with some of the fans who made their way onto the field. Saban's arrival created quite a buzz at the Fairhope Municipal Stadium that continued until he left, led by a one-car police escort. The arrival of new Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly didn't create that much buzz at all. Kelly, the former Oregon coach, slipped in rather quietly and didn't garner a whole lot of attention, even from the Philly media. One coach who was not in attendance was Bucs coach Greg Schiano, who was in Tampa for at least the better part of the day interviewing candidates for the team's secondary coach position. Dominik was expected to address the media today about all things Bucs.
