TAMPA — Two-time Pro Bowl left guard Carl Nicks didn’t report for the starting of training camp along with the rest of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates on Thursday and he won’t be with them when workouts begin today.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht, speaking to 98.7 FM earlier today, said Nicks has once again been excused from team activities, citing personal reasons.
Nicks’ absence comes in the wake of an offseason during which he sat out all of the Bucs workouts while still rehabbing from a series of left foot problems that have derailed his career.
Nicks has played in just nine games the past two years, the result of a left big toe injury he suffered seven games into the 2012 season and a MRSA infection he contracted early last season.
Nicks agent, Ben Dogra, has not responded to text or email messages requesting information regarding Nicks’ absence.
