Bucs work out ex-FSU, Plant RB Wilder Jr.

TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to determine if running back James Wilder Jr. can do for them what his father once did.

The Bucs hosted a private workout for the son of their all-time leading rusher at One Buc Place on Friday, Wilder Jr. noted on Twitter.

“Bucs workout went great, feel really confident that I helped my stock today with them!!!’’ Wilder Jr. tweeted.

Wilder Jr., of Tampa, is a former Plant High School star who decided to leave Florida State University after his junior season. He is expected to be selected in the middle or late rounds of this year’s NFL draft.

His father, James Wilder, played in 113 games for the Bucs between 1981 and 1989 and ran 1,575 times for 5,957 yards.

“The(y) got my pops pic here in the hallway, I’m just tryin to keep the legacy of the name Wilder goin!!!!’’ Wilder Jr. tweeted.

Wilder Jr., who is 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, ran for 1,363 yards and 20 touchdowns over three years with the Seminoles.
