The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will honor late owner Malcolm Glazer by wearing a memorial patch on their uniforms this year.
The patch features Glazer’s initials — “MG” — in white lettering against a black background. It will be worn on front upper left side of the jersey beginning with the Bucs’ preseason opener Friday at Jacksonville.
The team will also broadcast a special tribute video highlighting Glazer’s legacy as owner during its regular-season home opener Sept. 7 against Carolina.
Glazer died May 28 at the age of 85. He purchased the team in 1995 and quickly helped turned the franchise’s fortunes around, earning seven playoff berths, five playoff wins and its first Super Bowl championship during the 2002 season.
“Our father was very proud of his ownership of the Buccaneers and we know how special each football season was to him and our entire family,’’ Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer said. “The support we have received since his passing has been overwhelming, and we look forward to honoring him this season.’’
