TAMPA — Hours after signing top draft pick Mike Evans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached agreement Thursday on a contract with third-round choice Charles Sims, a running back from West Virginia.
Sims rushed for 1,055 yards and 11 touchdowns last year for the Mountaineers and is regarded as a polished receiver out of the backfield. With his advanced receiving skills, Sims could emerge as Tampa Bay’s third-down back in coordinator Jeff Tedford’s offense.
The signing of Evans and Sims leaves second-round pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins as the only Bucs draft pick still without a contract. A 6-foot-5 tight end from the University of Washington, Seferian-Jenkins did not attend Tampa Bay’s mandatory minicamp because his school is still in session.
