The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued adding pieces through free agency Wednesday, signing free-agent wide receiver Louis Murphy, a St. Petersburg native who played at the University of Florida.
Contract details were not available.
Murphy gives the Bucs an experienced complement to projected starters Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.
Murphy was a fourth-round pick (124th overall) of the Oakland Raiders in the 2009 draft. He was traded to Carolina in 2012 and spent 2013 with the New York Giants. He has appeared in 71 games with 24 starts, recording 121 receptions for 1,744 yards (14.4 avg.) and eight touchdowns.
Murphy, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, played at St. Petersburg's Lakewood High. At Florida, he made 26 starts and won two national championships, and was a captain as a senior.
The Bucs have added a dozen players since the free agency signing period began March 11, including quarterback Josh McCown, right defensive end Michael Johnson, left tackle Anthony Collins, cornerback Alterraun Verner, tight end Brandon Myers, cornerback Mike Jenkins.
