TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookies report to training camp today, getting a jump on veterans who aren't required to show until next week.
The Bucs are exercising an option to bring in 28 rookie and first-year players ahead of the July 24 official start of camp, according to the team. The week will parallel the first days of training camp, with conditioning on the first day, and no pads the second and third days.
The early work will give rookies important reps and coaching attention they may not get after the rest of the team reports.
Tampa Bay is scheduled to hold its first full-squad practice July 25 at the team's training facility adjacent to Raymond James Stadium. Ten practice sessions will again be open to the public, including a night session July 27 at the stadium.
The Bucs open the preseason at home Aug. 8 against the Baltimore Ravens.
