Bucs rookie Foster makes big impact in victory

TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie middle linebacker Mason Foster capitalized on a teammate's injury to make a major impact in Sunday's victory at Minnesota. With outside linebacker Quincy Black sidelined by an ankle injury, Foster registered a team-high 10 tackles in his second game as a pro, adding a sack, a quarterback hit, a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble as Tampa Bay rallied for a 24-20 triumph. "He was stout,'' Coach Raheem Morris said of the third-round pick out of Washington. "He played with energy. Of course, he had a couple of mistakes, kind of like my whole football team, but his understanding of those mistakes and ability to correct them shows his growth and development.'' Foster played sparingly in the season opener against Detroit but was used extensively on third down Sunday with Black hobbled.
"I felt like I got better,'' Foster said Monday. "I still had some mistakes I shouldn't make, but at the same time I'm learning. The NFL's a physical league, and it felt good to be out there with the game on the line.'' The extent of Black's injury was not known Monday. Morris hopes to know more by Wednesday when the team begins preparation for Sunday's home game against NFC South rival Atlanta.
