Bucs Hot Reads: Running game gathers momentum

We are — a running team.

The Buccaneers recommitted to running the ball two weeks ago because “that’s who we are,’’ Bucs coach Greg Schiano said. So far, the decision has paid off in a big way. The Bucs ran for 140 yards or more in each of their past two games (205 against Seattle, 140 against Miami), marking the first time since last year the Bucs ran for 140 yards or more in back to back games.

By the numbers

The Bucs have contributed greatly to one of the most notable trends of the 2013 NFL season. So far, 100 of the 147 games played (68 percent) had differentials of seven points or fewer in the fourth quarter — the most ever through 10 weeks. The Bucs contributed with six such games.

Did you know?

The Bucs have just one gain of 40 or more yards, the 59-yard touchdown pass from Mike Glennon to Vincent Jackson against Atlanta on Oct. 20. A year ago, the Bucs had 21 plays that gained at least 40 yards, including 16 passes and five runs.

Injury update

For the Bucs, DE Da’Quan Bowers (concussion) and LG Carl Nicks (foot) did not practice on Thursday; CB Mike Adams (knee) and S Mark Barron (knee) were limited; CB Danny Gorrer (groin), WR Vincent Jackson (knee), RG Davin Joseph (knee), WR Chris Owusu (foot), LT Donald Penn (calf) and DT Akeem Spence (wrist) participated fully.

For the Falcons, WR Harry Douglas (knee) and TE Tony Gonzalez (toe) did not practice; DT Peria Jerry (toe) was limited, while RB Steven Jackson (toe) and Sean Weatherspoon (foot) fully participated.
