Bucs Hot Reads: Couple’s lives revolve around team

As some raindrops began to fall on the fields at One Buc Place on Tuesday afternoon, a pair of loyal fans sat in the bleachers during practice, looking for sunshine.

Patty Campton-Adams, 75, and her 69-year-old husband, James, rarely miss a Bucs game on TV. Patty is the more emotional supporter and a Tampa Bay loss has been known to ruin her mood for days.

“If they lose, she’s miserable,’’ James said. “She’s literally kicking the walls in the house. ... There’s no sex for a week.’’

Patty and James usually attend 11 a.m. Mass on fall Sundays and if the sermon stretches toward 12:30, they start getting a little nervous about missing the kickoff.

“No one dares get between me and that TV,’’ Patty declared. “I love the Bucs, no matter what they do. I think they’ll be better this year.’’

Play of the day

During a fierce goal-line drill toward the end of practice, RB Doug Martin reached the end zone several times. But the stands roared when Martin took a handoff, veered left and was met by a thunderous hit, courtesy of MLB Mason Foster.

Coach Lovie Smith signaled TD, but several defenders argued passionately that Martin made little forward progress from the 1-yard line.

“I don’t think he got in,’’ Foster said. “I think he was stopped short, but (guard) Jamon Meredith made a great play, coming in and pushing Doug. But I had Doug stopped.’’

Quote of the day

“I think we’re all looking forward to hitting someone else.’’
