Bucs G Joseph nominated for Walter Payton Award

TAMPA - Two days after he was voted to the NFC Pro Bowl squad, veteran guard Davin Joseph was nominated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday for this season's NFL Walter Payton Award, recognizing players for their off-the-field community service. Tampa Bay's first-round pick in the 2006 draft helped develop "Turkey Time with the O-Line,'' an annual charitable initiative that has distributed nearly 3,000 Thanksgiving meals to needy families in the Bay area. For the past three years, Joseph has served as the club's spokesman for an NFL/United Way campaign promoting volunteerism in the Tampa Bay community. In 2011, he established the Davin Joseph Events for Cause Foundation to enhance athletic and performing arts programs in public schools. He also sponsored pre-game meals for the Blake High football program in Tampa, attending games and donating $10,000 to the athletic program. Joseph has been a starter since his rookie season with the Bucs and opened all 15 games this year. He also made the Pro Bowl after the 2008 season.
Joseph signed a seven-year extension with Tampa Bay this summer. The NFL has awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year honor each season since 1970. The national winner, announced during Super Bowl week in Indianapolis, will receive a $20,000 donation to the charity of his choice.
