FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released running back Peyton Hillis today, one day before they take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
Hillis signed with the Bucs just before the start of training camp and made the team following the preseason, but he was active for only the Bucs’ first two games and did not see any action.
The release of Hillis leaves an opening in the Bucs 53-man roster. There is a chance the team will fill that opening by promoting a player from its practice squad and activating him in time for Sunday’s game.
