BOSTON -- 2B Ben Zobrist rejoins the lineup tonight as the Rays begin a three-game series against the red-hot Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Zobrist, out since May 15 with a dislocated left thumb, said the thumb is not an issue fielding or hitting. He will wear a protective mitten when he runs the bases so he can continue his habit of head-first slides. He said he won’t try the swing move while sliding since he’s landed on the DL with thumb injuries the two times he tried to avoid a tag with that maneuver.
C Jose Molina, who left Wednesday’s game after taking a foul tip off his facemask, is also in the lineup. Molina said he’s fine.
David Price is pitching tonight. He is 6-1 in 10 starts in Boston and 9-0 in his last 15 regular season starts on the road in the AL East.
The Rays have lost three straight, while the Red Sox have won four straight.
This is the first meeting since the pushing-shoving-finger pointing dustup between the two teams last Sunday at the Trop. Both sides said the incident is in the past, though everyone knows the hard feelings between these two teams are never in the past.
Rain is expected tonight, which is usually the case when the Rays play at Fenway.
Here are the lineups:
Price LHP (4-4, 4.42)
Bradley Jr. CF
Workman RHP (0-0, 3.18)
