TORONTO – The Rays placed OF Brandon Guyer on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a hairline fracture in his left thumb and recalled RHP Alex Colome.
Colome just finished serving a 50-game suspension for failing minor league baseball’s drug test.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said Colome, who was scheduled to start Monday for Triple A Durham, was recalled because he provides the Rays with a long man if Erik Bedard has a short outing Monday against the Blue Jays and he can help build the bridge to Grant Balfour.
Guyer is expected to miss at least three weeks with his injury. It occurred Sunday when he tried to make a diving catch on a ball hit by Grady Sizemore. Guyer remained in the game and even had a hit, but complained of soreness afterwards. X-rays showed the injury.
The Rays begin an eight-game, three city trip Monday against the Blue Jays, winners of their last six games.
Here are the lineups
Bedard LHP (2-2, 2.63)
Hutchinson RHP (3-3, 3.45)
