River Ridge High named Kurt Goluba as its head coach Tuesday. Goluba, an assistant under Ernie Beck, is the father of River Ridge senior pitcher Makenzie Goluba.
“Definitely some big shoes to fill,” Goluba said. “One of my main goals is to build the interest back up in playing for River Ridge. We haven’t had a junior varsity team in recent memory and I’d like to have some type of feeder team to the varsity.”
Goluba takes over arguably the most talented softball team in Pasco County. River Ridge won another district title this past spring, and Goluba takes over for Beck, who won more than 400 games before retiring.
River Ridge was 26-4 last season and many starters, including Goluba, Kenzi Maguire, Madisyn Palmer and Allysa Lyons return.
