Tampa Prep athletic director Mike Flynn has announced that Terrapins have hired a new girls varsity soccer coach in Santiago Carreno.
Carreno has been the boys varsity assistant for four seasons, helping the Terrapins to a pair of state titles.
A release from the school said Carreno was born in Mexico and played with the Mexican youth national team in 1990 before playing for four years at Morelos State University (Cuernavaca, Chamilpa, Mexico).
Carreno takes over for Cindy Schofield, who served as head coach for the Terrapins for five seasons including a pair of state final four appearances in 2010 and 2011. Schofield said she announced she was stepping down on Wednesday.
