Will Power wins Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — Will Power took the checkered flag at the 2014 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday afternoon, edging American driver Ryan Hunter-Reay by 1.947 seconds and grabbing his second career win at the event.

Power, the 33-year-old Australian, picked up his 20th career IndyCar Series win in the season’s opening race that winds its way through a 14-turn, 1.8-mile temporary racing circuit track on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg and part of the runway at Albert Whitted Airport.

Power, who won the 2010 St. Pete race, led 74 of 110 laps.

Three-time St. Petersburg champion Helio Castroneves was third.
