Sanders, Russell, Simpson prevail at East Bay Raceway

— At East Bay Raceway on Saturday night, feature winners on the one-third-mile clay oval were Jeremy Simpson for the V8 Warriors, Jason Russell for the Limited Late Models and Austin Sanders in the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds.

Mother Nature forced the cancellation of the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks three laps into the feature and they will pick up where they left off Aug. 16. The Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers will run a double feature next week.

In the 15-lap V8 Warriors, Simpson picked up his first win in the division. Jimmy Baker, who rolled over earlier in the feature, raced back to a second-place finish with David Riner third. Roy Woodhouse and Raymond Vann won their heats.

In the 15-lap Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Sanders registered the win after passing Travis Varnadore on Lap 9. Varnadore finished second and Buzzie Reutimann was third. Bryan Bernhardt and Varnadore won their heats.

In the Limited Late Model 15-lap feature, Russell picked up his second feature win in the division — his first came in 2012. Russell held off hard-charging Forrest Gough and Waylon Haynes. Dale Pope and Haynes won their heats.

Winning the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks heat race was Buck Woodhouse; Kayla Jones and George Handy were victorious in the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers heat races.

Action continues this Saturday with the East Bay Sprints, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Sunshine Micro Sprints.
