GATOR CHEERLEADER HONORED: At a recent competition, Kali Stewart was selected as a Gator cheerleader for the University of Florida. Stewart, a Brandon resident, graduated with honors from Nativity Catholic School. She is studying at the University of Florida and plans to become a pediatric dentist.
PLANT SALE FOR MOM: Armwood High School, 12000 U.S. 92, Seffner. The Armwood chapter of Future Farmers of America will hold a Mother's Day plant sale from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the school's agriculture shop. Call Eddy Watkins at (813) 842-2744.
"LES MISERABLES": Bloomingdale High School, 1700 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. The Showcase Players at the Music Showcase will perform the musical "Les Miserables" starting at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 19 and 26 and 3 p.m. May 20 and 27. REGISTER FOR SCHOOL: Foundation Christian Academy, 3955 Lithia-Pinecrest Road, Brandon. The school will accept registration for preschool to eighth grade from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 24. Call (813) 654-2969.
PTSA MEETING: Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Road, Riverview. The school's PTSA will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the principal's conference room. Parents are asked to attend and get involved in school activities. Call Jay Jordan at (813) 672-2233.
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS: The Crossing Church, 10130 Causeway Blvd., Tampa. Brooker Elementary and Yates Elementary schools in Brandon and Lithia Springs Elementary in Valrico will be among seven teams participating in the Battle of the Books competition at 10 a.m. today. Participants will be given questions about a book they have read. The team that responds the fastest gets to answer the question. The school with the most correct answers wins and will compete for the district champion title.
"THE WIZ": Spoto High School, 8538 Eagle Palm Drive, Riverview. Riverview's newest school is hosting its first musical production. "The Wiz," adapted from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday, with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, in the school auditorium. Advance tickets are $8. NEWSOME CONCERTS: Newsome High School, 16550 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia. The music department's final concert series and award presentations for the school year are at 7 p.m. Call the school at (813) 740-4600.
•Today: Orchestra Spring Concert. The Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Strings will perform. Graduating seniors will be recognized.
•Friday: Choral Awards Night. Students from Elite, Chamber Choir, Advanced Women's Choir, Men's Choir and the Newsome High School Singers will be recognized.
DRIVER EDUCATION CLASS: Hillsborough County public schools' Department of Adult and Community Education will offer a four-week driver education class June 4-26. The course will be taught by state-certified instructors. Cost is $175 per student. Registration and classes will be held at the following schools:
