Tampa council approves repairs for Davis Islands pool
DAVIS ISLANDS - Four years after it temporarily closed, the landmark Roy Jenkins swimming pool finally will get its facelift. The Tampa City Council on Thursday voted to award a $2.25 million construction contract to Pillar Construction Group, which will repair the 93-year-old pool. The pool has been closed since 2008. Last year Davis Islands residents voted to give the city $500,000 from their neighborhood’s recreation fund to help repair and restore the pool. The city agreed to pay the remainder of the cost.Construction is expected to be completed in January. A survey was conducted last fall to determine how residents would use the pool, and results were shared with city officials during the development of the city’s 2014 operational budget. A city council workshop on April 25 will focus on the operation of the 14 city pools.
