Sunset Park Garden Club officers installed

SUNSET PARK - Officers of the Sunset Park Garden Club for 2013-14 were installed recently in a ceremony that also included a celebration of the organization's 85th birthday. Peggiann Fowler will service as president. Other officers are Tuky Vargas, vice president; Laurie McLamore, treasurer; Jane Axt, recording secretary; and Lina Sjoblom, corresponding secretary. They were installed June 5 by outgoing president Karen Ghent, who presented Fowler the president's pin. Fowler said the club year will begin Sept. 25 with a membership coffee at the organization's clubhouse, 4624 W. Browning Ave. "It's fun to be together and catch up from the summer," she said. "But the real objective is to bring in new members."
The club, which meets at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of the month, recently opened membership to residents of Hillsborough County, not just Sunset Park. Other activities planned include a plant sale and flea market Nov. 16; a card party and luncheon March 19; and a flower show March 26. Ghent, who received a past president's pin and a hanging basket, said she had enjoyed her year as president. "It's been the fun and the fellowship of getting together and learning a little, eating a little and chatting a lot," she told the members. "I love you ladies."
