Student pilot crashes helicopter on Davis Islands; no injuries
TAMPA - A student pilot on a test flight Wednesday night crashed a helicopter at Peter O. Knight Airport on Davis Islands. The student and the instructor weren't injured, said Tampa police Lt. Jack Diaz. Emergency crews responded to the 6:07 p.m. call regarding the helicopter crash. Tampa Fire Rescue units assessed the situation and called off fire engines heading to the scene, said Tampa Fire spokeswoman Debra Sue Warshefski. There were no injuries and no fire, Warshefski said. The helicopter had a hard landing, she said.At the scene, Davis Islands residents watched as emergency crews assessed the crash, which left the helicopter lying on its side.
