SOUTH TAMPA – A silver coffee will highlight the 2013-14 year for the Red Cross Angels, a support group for the American Red Cross Tampa Bay chapter.
The coffee, along with activities such as a CPA class, the signing of “hero” cards for the holidays and a program about the University of South Florida Red Cross collegiate chapter, were announced recently by the organization.
Members and guests gathered Sept. 16 at the Red Cross headquarters to kick off the year of activities and learn about the Red Cross’ work locally, nationally and abroad.
The coffee, open to the public, will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at the South Tampa home of Beck and Neil Rauenhorst. A minimum donation of $35 is requested and sponsorship levels are set at $100, $250 and $500.
“This is our biggest fundraiser for the year,” president Missy Steadman told the group. “The Angels do make a difference. The money we raise stays here locally - with the Tampa Bay chapter.”
Linda Jorge Carbona of the Tampa Bay chapter told the group, “You are our biggest advocates in the community.”
She said the Angels help Red Cross raise awareness, volunteers and financial support.
She said 94 percent of the work of the Red Cross is done by volunteers and 91 cents out of every dollar raised goes to program services such as disaster relief and assistance to military personnel .
The Angels are accepting new members with membership fee $45 a year. For information on joining the organization, call (813) 348-4820
