TAMPA — The Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts will present “Thoroughly Modern Millie, Junior” in the TECO Theater on Aug. 7-9.
Patel Conservatory students in grades five through eight will perform in the culmination of a three-week summer camp during which they’ve received intensive training in music, theater and dance.
The show tells the tale of Millie Dillmount, who in 1922 has moved to the big city in search of a new life for herself. Filled with fun flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess, “Thoroughly Modern Millie, Junior” is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment.
It’s a story full of intrigue and jazz.
The musical will be directed by Lisa Vorreiter and choreographed by Jane Russel Geddings.
Performances are each night at 7, with additional 2 p.m. shows on Aug. 8 and 9. Regularly priced tickets are $10-$15 and may be purchased by calling (813) 229-STAR (7827), or (800) 955-1045 from outside Tampa Bay; in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office; or online at www.strazcenter.org.
