Valentine's Day was an afternoon of crafts and ice cream for children and teens at Metropolitan Ministries.
The Lamplighters, a support group for children in need, arrived at the Florida Avenue center loaded with art supplies, bright beads, cartons of vanilla ice cream and, of course, all the topping as well.
The annual Valentine's Day party had about 80 attendees starting at age 2. Each made their own “Mr. Valentine,” a pink heart-shaped craft project as well as paper roses from pastel tissue paper. Lamplighter members, along with their pre-teen and teen children, assisted them.
“It's important for the kids to have fun, enjoy the celebration and to just enjoy the love of this community,” said Tricia Hancock, president of the Lamplighters.
