Bob Schofner, a Boy Scout in Troop 4, of South Tampa, recently remodeled a storage room at United Cerebral Palsy of Tampa Bay Early Childhood Education Preschool into a sensory room.
For his Eagle Scout project, Schofner and volunteers installed learning tools and sensory items specially designed for special-needs children.
The room will help teach delayed or disabled children fine and gross motor skills. The sensory activities will promote independence and give children a chance to live full, experience-rich lives.
To finance the project, he made beef jerky and sold it at local farmers markets, raising more than $2,000 through sales and donations. Lowe’s also gave a $100 gift card toward the project through the Lowe’s Grant Program.
The center will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 6 to the unveil room.
