Food Truck Wars rolls into Tampa's Channelside district
Close to 40 food trucks will be facing off for mobile eats supremacy at the Channelside District in Tampa on Saturday. The inaugural Food Truck Wars Tampa will take place outside the Grand Central on Kennedy complex from 4 to 10 p.m., with rolling eateries from around the state selling their food and trying to impress a panel of local chefs. Winners will be crowned in categories including the culinary chef off, largest single food item, delectable dessert and people's choice. Congresswoman Kathy Castor is scheduled to open the event, which will also feature live music and a beer garden. The event is being sponsored in part by the TECO Line Streetcar System. As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, the streetcar will be offering 10-cent fares all day long, including rides to its nearby Channelside station. A release from the company organizing the event touted crowds of 20,000 and 30,000 at similar Food Truck Wars events in Altamonte Springs and Oveido, respectively. That release stated that organizers are expecting an even larger turnout in Tampa. For a full list of the local and statewide food trucks competing in the event, visit foodtruckwars.com.
