WEST SHORE — Children with cancer or chronic blood disorders and their families now have a cheerful place for play and support.
The Children’s Cancer Center, 4901 W. Cypress St., unveiled its remodeled facility recently with guests able to see the new covered play area, covered basketball courts and areas for dining and play time.
“We have a safe haven” with the full renovation, said Patty O’Leary, the center’s executive director. “It’s a place for celebrations as well as psychosocial emotional support. The parents, kids and siblings can all connect.”
At a Sept. 22 unveiling, the Covelli Family Limited Partnership, franchisee of Panera LLC, the Leo and Anne Albert Charitable Trust, and 13 Ugly Men were honored as partners in the renovation.
Founded in 1974, the center now has 24 programs and services currently helping more than 950 families.
