A dead man was found floating in Tampa Bay this morning, Tampa Police said.
At around 7:47 a.m., a Pinellas County Sheriff’s boat was conducting an exercise in the bay and spotted the body floating 300 yards west of the dead end of W. Tyson Avenue, just south of the Gandy Boulevard bridge, police said.
The Pinellas sheriff’s deputies retrieved the body and notified Tampa police, who are investigating.
There were no signs of debris or wreckage, and there do not appear to be any signs of trauma to the body, police said. The body appears to have been in the water for several days, making it difficult to determine the man’s race or identity at this time, police said.
The medical examiner will take possession of the body and determine the cause of death.
