Paddle the bayou
Camp Bayou invites the public for a nature-filled morning of activities from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on National Trails Day, June 1. Visitors can participate in outdoors activities on the Learning Center's Big Lawn or take a trail walk through Camp Bayou's 160 acres. A 90-minute, guided canoe tour will be offered for a $25 rental fee per canoe - or $5 if you have your own canoe or kayak. Canoe rental availability is limited to first-come, first-serve, starting at 9 a.m. The tour departs from the canoe dock at 9:30. The event will kick off a new and improved photo contest for 2013. This year winners will receive a prize and award ribbon. So bring your camera along to take pictures of the flora and fauna you see. You might very well capture a prize winner.A grilled cheese sandwich, drink and chips are available for $5 at 11:30 a.m. The Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center is a public-private partnership between Bayou Outdoor Learning and Discovery Inc., Ruskin Community Development Foundation and Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation.
