Longtime business closes
After more than 20 years of serving South Shore, Mary Ann Wilhelm, owner of Wilhelm Heating & Air Conditioning, 802 Fourth St. S.W., Ruskin, has retired. A longtime community supporter and former honorary mayor, Wilhelm recently sold her business to Alert Air Conditioning of Tampa, a company founded in 1946. She plans to enjoy a brief period of time off, and then will sell A/C units for Alert's owner, Dan Wilkie. Calls to Wilhelm Heating & Air Conditioning will be automatically forwarded to Alert, where Wilkie has promised to give Wilhelm clients priority service. All current preventive maintenance agreements and service contracts will be honored. The new space will be used primarily for two party rooms to accommodate parties of 20 to 40 and to provide additional overflow seating, oven space and more storage. Fredricks said he wants to cut his eatery's Friday night take-out wait from 90 minutes to 45 or less. The $200,000 investment will enable him to make his operation more efficient and offer customers better service, he said. The renovation is being done in anticipation of continued growth in the area, including the opening of St. Joseph Hospital-South, and home sales in Waterset. Fredricks opened the Riverview site in July 2005. He owns and operates another East Coast Pizza restaurant at 10433 C.R. 39, Lithia.
