John Evon, of Apollo Beach, announces School Board candidacy
APOLLO BEACH - John Evon has entered the race for the District 6 seat on the Hillsborough County School Board. The Apollo Beach resident previously served as vice chair of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County from 2007 to 2013. His campaign mantra is "Read by Eight to Graduate." "As a former educator, I see the importance of reading and creative thinking, and I understand our children's needs," Evon said. "This has motivated me to run for the school board." Evon, 59, joins fellow candidates Alison McGillivray Fernandez, Kim Miller, Russ Patterson and Dipa Shah as they vie for the District 6 seat, which will be decided in a countywide vote during next year's election. They hope to replace April Griffin, who has declared her candidacy for the county commission.Staff reports
