FishHawk, Waterset residents give to community

LITHIA – The Concerts for a Cause outdoor music series has come to an end at the FishHawk Ranch and Waterset master-planned residential communities, but the giving has not stopped.

Through the generosity of concertgoers, enough canned goods and cash were donated to provide more than 7,000 meals – more than three tons of food – to Feeding America Tampa Bay.

Cover bands from around Florida reproduced popular contemporary music and classic oldies at the 12-concert series while people of various ages from the greater Brandon and South Shore areas dropped off non-perishable foods, played, picnicked and danced.

In another generous endeavor, the FishHawk Road Runners running club put on the 17th annual FishHawk Ranch Road Race – a twilight run with a 5K race and one-mile kids fun run – this spring. The event raised more than $22,000 for local education, and each of six schools received an award of $3,600: Bevis Elementary, FishHawk Creek Elementary, Stowers Elementary, Barrington Middle, Randall Middle and Newsome High.

A contribution of $1,000 from the road race went to the FishHawk Road Runners’ scholarship fund. Each year, a graduating senior who has participated in running at Newsome, Bloomingdale, Riverview, Durant or Brandon high school is awarded a one-time, $1,000 scholarship. The recipient should be an active volunteer and ambassador for the sport of running and want to continue running in college.

“We are constantly amazed by our residents’ kindness and how the community gathers together for the greater good,” said Pam Parisi, director of marketing for Newland Communities which owns, operates and develops residential and retail real estate, including FishHawk Ranch and Waterset, throughout the United States.
