THURSDAY Opening art show reception There will be an Artists' Reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crawford Gallery in the SouthShore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin. The works of Greta May Barnes, Marcia Hansen, and Kylee Starkebaum will be on display through Oct. 25. The show will feature a variety of subject matters and mediums. Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. Rev that engineThe Roamin' Oldies cruise-in will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Winn-Dixie Plaza, 6188 U.S. 41 N., Apollo Beach. The event is free to entrants and spectators. About 90 of the area's antique and collectible cars and trucks will be on display, accompanied by classic 1950's music played by DJ Joey Ferrante. FRIDAY Time to roll the dice The Riverview Woman's Club will host a game of bunco from 6 to 9 p.m. at Summerfield Crossings, 13050 Summerfield Blvd. in Riverview. SATURDAY Skate park ready for grand opening The grand opening for the Apollo Beach Skate Park will be at 10 a.m. Hillsborough County commissioners will be on hand for the ceremony at 664 Golf and Sea Blvd. in Apollo Beach. The Apollo Beach Skate Park is shaped like a three-pointed star with an elevated center. All skaters must wear helmets, complete a waiver and have it notarized. Children can get creative Art instructor Tim Gibbons will lead children down a creative path at the SouthShore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin, and help them make a project to take home. Youngsters age 3 to 6 have their turn at 2:30 p.m. and older children, ages 7 to 10, get to go at 3:30 p.m. Registration in required for either group. Magician Greg Gaulden will combine disco music with illusions and magic to entertain the audience. Animals in their habitats Travel around the world with fuzzy friends for some amazing animal adventures beginning at 7 p.m. at the SouthShore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin. Children ages 5 to 12 will hear about Kinka, the kinkajou from the rain forest; Pistachio, the prairie dog from out west, and Benji, the Bengal cat. TUESDAY Patriots Day remembrance A special ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. to commemorate Patriots Day at the Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. The theme, "Lest we Forget," is to honor the courage and heroism of the victims and first responders of 9/11 and those who continue the fight on terrorism today. PLAN AHEAD Investigate the possibilities The founders of Apollo Moon-Landing Paranormal Investigations will speak at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 in the Heritage Room, 951 North Course Lane, Sun City Center. They will explain their service as a paranormal investigation team. They also will talk about the Night Flight Paranormal Investigations at Fantasy of Flight in Polk City which allows guests to act as investigators on the team. Get ready for a picnic A Hoe-Down Picnic Pot Luck will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the United Community Church, 1501 La Jolla Ave. in Sun City Center. It will be an evening of food, fun and entertainment. The Front Porch Pickers will provide music and maybe some square dancing. The Men's Bake-Off is also on board for the evening, so men, put your aprons on and create a dessert for all to enjoy. There is no admission charge, just a covered dish of food to share.
