NEW PORT RICHEY — Richey Suncoast Theatre will launch its Blues/Jazz/Country Series concerts on Saturday.
“I am reaching out to a different group of people and hopefully introducing them to our theater,” Executive Director Marie Skelton said. The six shows will continue through Nov. 16 at the downtown theater at 6237 Grand Blvd.
“RST is a small theater, so the patrons will enjoy an intimate evening with their favorite artist, an up close and personal evening,” Skelton said. Patrons can meet the artist during the post-concert after-show party if they opt to buy the additional $10 tickets.
Concert prices are based on seat selection, starting at $30. Discounts are available for patrons who buy packages of four or all six concerts.
Bobby Murray and Bobby Blackmon will perform at the first show, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. RJ Howson and Band will open before the headliners take to the stage.
Leesburg-based Blackmon specializes in contemporary Southern soul, blues and classic rhythm and blues music. He sings and plays lead guitar in his band.
Blackmon was a co-headliner with Buddy Guy at the House of Blues Orlando in 2006. In May 2010, he opened for the legendary BB King in Orlando. He has shared the stage with many other blues artists at festivals and comes from a long line of polished blues guitarists from Texas.
His latest album, “Yeah Baby: Chillin’ With The Blues,” was chosen as a Pick To Click on SiriusXM satellite radio.
Blues guitarist, band leader, songwriter and producer Bobby Murray played with the late, great Etta James for 22 years. He has performed on three Grammy-winning recordings.
He leads his own band in Detroit and has just released a new album, “I’m Stickin’ With You.”
Murray has recorded albums with B.B. King and Robert Cray. Murray also has performed or recorded with John Lee Hooker, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson, Lowell Fulson, Taj Mahal, Jimmy Witherspoon, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy and a host of others.
Bobby’s latest recording, “I’m Stickin’ With You,” features the single, “Finders Keepers” and 10 more songs written by Murray.
On Oct. 6, the concert series continues, as Eden Brent will take to the theater stage at 2:30 p.m.
The remaining schedule features Samantha Fish at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, Guy Davis at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Isabel Rose at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov . 8, and Sarah McClurg at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
