Two people were killed this afternoon when their car drove into the path of a truck, which struck the car at the intersection of Johnson Road and James L. Redman Parkway.
About 3:45 p.m., a 2009 Hyundai was eastbound on Johnson Road when the driver tried to turn left turn onto James L. Redman Parkway, but pulled into the path of a southbound 2002 Sterling semi tractor, according to Plant City police.
The tractor struck the driver’s side of the Hyundai sending both vehicles into the center median, according to police. Both the driver and the passenger in the Hyundai died from their injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.
Investigators are withholding the names of the deceased pending notification of relatives and further investigation, police said.
Later at the city commission meeting, Mayor Mary Mathis asked for prayers for those involved in the crash.
Redman Parkway was closed for several hours after the crash, but has reopened.
