Strawberry Festival queen’s court looking forward to year ahead

PLANT CITY — The four members of Florida Strawberry Festival Queen Jessi Rae Varnum’s court say they have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

During the festival, they’ll meet such country stars as Rascal Flatts while having fun on carnival rides such as the log flume and indulging in such treats as strawberry shortcake.

Most of all, the four — First Maid Lindsey English, Macaley Barrow, Kallee Cook and Caitlyn Kent — look forward to representing the festival and Plant City and bonding with Varnum and each other.

“I have two brothers and always wanted a sister. Now I have four sisters,” Barrow said.

They all agree that the chance to serve on the court is the opportunity of a lifetime.

“I feel so honored and blessed,” Cook said.

Here’s a short profile of each court member, their favorite fair food and carnival ride and an interesting personal tidbit:

♦  English, 17-year-old daughter of Chrystal English, is a Plant City High senior who is dual enrolled in Hillsborough Community College.

Favorite fair food: Friskee fries

Favorite ride: Rock ’n Roll

Interesting personal fact: Competed in baton twirling for 13 years; the aspiring lawyer plans to take twirling up again in college.

♦  Barrow, 17-year-old daughter of Stacy and Connie Barrow, is a Durant High senior.

Favorite fair food: Cinnamon rolls and frozen lemonade

Favorite carnival ride: Freak Out

Interesting personal fact: The aspiring dentist competed for years as a gymnast, and as a 12-year-old was a regional champion.

♦  Cook, 19-year-old daughter of Kent and Cindy Cook, is a Durant High graduate and Hills- borough Community College sophomore.

Favorite fair food: Elephant ears

Favorite carnival ride: Gravitron

Interesting personal fact: Cook, who plans to get a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida, owns her own cattle company and currently owns seven head of cattle.

♦  Kent, 16-year-old daughter of Jay and Judith Kent, is a Florida Virtual School senior who is dual enrolled at Hillsborough Community College.

Favorite fair food: chocolate covered bacon

Favorite carnival ride: log flume

Interesting personal fact: Kent, who plans to major in marketing and minor in fashion design at University of Central Florida, designed and hand-made the evening gown and casual wear outfit she used in pageant competition.
