PLANT CITY — The Florida Strawberry Festival proved to be a popular draw again this year.
The festival had 531,659 visitors during its 11-day run that ended March 9. That’s about 5,000 more than in 2013.
Spending on the midway for rides and concessions was up about 2 percent.
Festival General Manager Paul Davis credited weather for the strong attendance.
“We had two good weekends,” he said. “We sure were blessed.”
Davis said the festival enjoyed a smooth run with few incidents, one of the most notable being the confiscation of a dozen counterfeit T-shirts being sold without the festival’s knowledge during The Band Perry concert. The shirts had the Florida Strawberry Festival on the front and The Band Perry on the back, Davis said.
The band was planning to take copyright infringement action against the three vendors, who were ejected from the festival grounds, Davis said. A fourth vendor ran from undercover officers and got away.
