PLANT CITY Ronnie Milsap has canceled his Friday performance at the Florida Strawberry Festival due to illness.
A representative of the blind country singer said Milsap recently had surgery and hasn’t been cleared to travel. The festival announced Wednesday that BJ Thomas had been booked to replace Milsap at the 3:30 p.m. show.
“We are saddened to learn that Ronnie Milsap won’t be able to join us,” festival General Manager Paul Davis said. “But we believe BJ Thomas is a great fit for our festival and will connect well with our patrons.”
Thomas has been entertaining for more than 50 years and is known for such hits as “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Rain Drops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” “I Just Can’t Help Believing,” “Rock and Roll Lullaby” and more.
A Milsap representative said in a statement that “Ronnie sends his sincere apologies to all his fans at the Florida Strawberry Festival and hopes to be able to return to the festival in the future.”
The festival will honor tickets already purchased to the Milsap show at the Thomas show or will refund the purchase in full prior to the show, Davis said.
Tickets for reserved seats to the Thomas show can purchased for $15 and $20 at www.flstrawberryfestival.com, over the phone at (813) 754-1996 or at the festival box office at 2209 W. Oak Ave.
