Plant City woman held in death of infant son
A Plant City woman was charged today in the death of her 5-week-old son, who was found dead in her home, the Plant City Police Department said. Talae Akei Thomas, 30, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, police said. At around 11 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of West Grant Street and South Alexander Street. When police officers arrived, they found Thomas lying in the median. She told officers that she needed to go to the hospital for treatment because she had lost her baby, police said. Thomas was transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital.Officers went to her home, 305 W. Grant St., to let family members know that she was transported to the hospital. When officers approached the front door, it was open, police said. Officers entered the home and found the body of Thomas' 5-week-old son, Chase James Urijah Harrison, police said. Police said the child died from "criminal activity," police said. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office hasn't completed its report on the autopsy. Thomas is being held at Orient Road Jail, police said.
