PLANT CITY — A man was charged Monday with killing the mother of two of his children, police said.
David Gabriel Coleman had an “on again, off again,” relationship with Tiffany April Lamar, police said. The victim was found dead in her apartment early Monday, a day before her 25th birthday.
Lamar was killed during an argument with Coleman, police Sgt. Tray Towles said. Coleman, 23, was charged with second-degree murder with a weapon, Towles said.
“We don’t believe they were living together but they had children in common,” he said.
Officers were sent to Lamar’s apartment about 3:30 a.m. after Coleman arrived at a relative’s home on Sam Allen Road with his two children. The relative noticed Coleman was injured and Coleman said he had fought with Lamar, Towles said.
Officers arrived at Woodbridge Apartments, 1516 Plantation Grove Court, near the Alexander Street and Airport Road intersection and broke into Lamar’s home through a window. They discovered Lamar’s body and an unharmed child, who was sleeping.
The child found in the apartment was not fathered by Coleman, police said.
The three children were turned over to the state Department of Children & Families, Towles said.
