PLANT CITY – Plant City High School student TJ Chase has been selected to play in a national bowl game for top high school players sponsored by the Marine Corps.
Chase, 18, will play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Jan. 3 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Tom McInerney with the Semper Fidelis All American Bowl said that 90 players from across the country are selected based on their performance on the team, in the classroom and in their community.
“Players who are not only great athletes but great in their community,” he said. He said this is the fifth year the Marine Corps has sponsored the bowl.
“It’s just another great plug for these kids to show off their talents on a national stage,” he said.
Chase was honored in a ceremony at the school Nov. 6 with teammates, coaches, family and friends present.
Plant City High School Athletic Director Tim Leeseberg said that Chase, an accomplished wide receiver and defensive back, has committed to play for Clemson University.
He said Plant City High was pleased to learn that Chase, only one of three students recruited in Florida, was selected for the bowl.
“When they contacted me to let me know he was selected for this,” Lesseberg said, “it’s a big deal.”
