PLANT CITY — About 600 guests donned their best denim for an annual gala to benefit the South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation.
Guests were treated to music and food at the 17th annual Diamonds & Denim at the Florida Strawberry Festival grounds. The foundation raised money through ticket sales, sponsorships, drawings and auctions, including an inaugural live auction that brought in a total of $8,000.
“I think it was great. Everybody was having a good time,” said Jana Butler, executive director of the hospital foundation.
The goal was to raise $100,000. Final figures weren’t available at press time, but early indications are that the fundraiser was successful, Butler said.
Diamonds & Denim has raised about $1 million since it was founded in 1997. The money has been used for hospital services and programs.
The gala is the largest fundraiser of the year for the foundation, Butler said.
“We’re already looking forward to next year to make it bigger and better,” she said.
