Golf tournament to raise money for children’s charities
PLANT CITY - Registration is continuing for a golf tournament that’s expected to raise $50,000 for children’s causes. The Ricoh Children’s Classic tournament will be held April 19 at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club. The tournament has been held for about 20 years and is expected to attract about 200 golfers. Jodi Smith Stevens, the co-chairwoman for the tournament, said the money raised by will help hundreds of children. The beneficiaries include the South Florida Baptist Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels mobile clinic, Plant City Kiwanis Club’s children’s programs and Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce scholarships.The cost is $500 for a foursome. The organizers are also looking for sponsors at levels ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and door prize sponsors. The day includes meals and there will be contests in such categories as longest drive. Check-in starts at 11 a.m. at the golf course, 2001 N. Clubhouse Drive. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. For information, call Stevens at (813) 757-8574.
